Mountain Walking Touring and Climbing Guide
An alpine climbing and walking guide to the Oetztaler (or Ötztaler) Alps which
straddle the Austrian-Italian border, between the Silvretta and the
Zillertaler and Stubai, and have achieved recent fame with the discovery high
in the range of «Ötzi», the remains of man who lived 5300 years ago. The
Oetztaler Alps lie north-east of the Tirol and are mainly accessed from
Mittleberg, Vent and Obergurgl. The highest peak in the range is the Wildspitz
(3772m).
This guide gives a selection of walks and easier mountaineering routes.
The guide has some good monochrome photodiagrams. The information is
comprehensive but presented as a series of notes so a map and ability to put
together your own itinerary from the facts provided is useful. The climbing
descriptions are mainly of routes of F and below with a few of PD and AD, but
all the major peaks and many others are described.
