This new edition of Blodig’s masterwork, edited by Helmut Dumler and
illustrated by the fabulous large-format photographs of Willi Burkhardt, has
been adapted for English-speaking climbers. The text has been embellished with
a wealth of new anecdotal material drawn from books and journals – most
notably from the splendid early editions of the Alpine Journal. The
photography is also strengthened by the addition of over 150 action
photographs depicting key sections of the climbs. Each mountain is dealt with
separately, with a historical commentary and advice about the current
situation on the popular routes. The ski-mountaineering potential of the peaks
is also discussed. Topographical diagrams support the photographs and
important tabular information completes a compendium of unrivalled factual,
visual and historic interest that is sure to become a prized possession on
every mountaineer’s bookshelf.
