This climbing guidebook is a collection of some major destinations around the
\nworld, presenting for each one a selection of multi-pitch climbs which are
\nmore than enough to fill a first trip.
\nThe \u2018climbing\u2019 interest of a destination has been the main criteria for
\nincluding it in this book. But ease of access from Europe, relatively stable
\nweather during the main climbing seasons and absence of prohibitive political
\ntensions were also essential factors.<\/p>\n
The mandatory climbing grade required for the routes described ranges from 6a
\nto 6c for bolted routes and from 5c to 6b for trad climbing routes:
\n\u2013 The Calanques and the Verdon in the South of France, Sardinia: bolted
\nlimestone climbs on exceptional rock faces and in spectacular surroundings
\n\u2013 The Meteora in Greece: quite reasonably-graded routes (although sometimes
\nvery committing) on surreal conglomerate towers
\n\u2013 The Wadi Rum in Jordan: quite sustained \u201ctrad\u201d climbing routes up sandstone
\nwalls against an unforgettable backdrop
\n\u2013 The Tsaranoro Massif in Madagascar: quite committing bolted routes on big
\ngranite walls
\n\u2013 Red Rocks and Zion Parks in the USA: often very reasonably-graded \u201ctrad\u201d
\nclimbs on truly stunning sandstone faces<\/p>\n
Some may find that just 7 regions is too few. Don\u2019t be frustrated by this;
\ninstead, look at this guidebook as a good guide for a first trip, also giving
