\nThe mountaineers, at the peak of their powers and experience, completed an
\nextremely committing enterprise. Soon afterwards two of the participants were
\nstruck down in mountaineering accidents – Maclntyre hit by stonefall on
\nAnnapurna’s South Face, Baxter-Jones being caught by an ice avalanche on the
\nAiguille du Triolet. In addition their support climber, Nick Prescott, died in
