\nMoab to Colorado National Monument <\/p>\n
Every year, climbers from around the world converge on southeast Utah and
\nsouthwest Colorado. This guide covers climbs east of the Colorado River in the
\nMoab area, including climbing areas such as Castle Valley, the Fisher Towers,
\nOnion Creek, and Colorado National Monument. B&w; maps, topos, and photos
\ncombine with written descriptions of some 500 routes, gear lists, and first
\nascent information. <\/p>\n
Colorado National Monument preserves one of the grand landscapes of the
\nAmerican West. Sheer-walled canyons, towering monoliths, colorful formations,
\ndesert bighorn sheep, soaring eagles, and a spectacular road reflect the
\nenvironment and history of the plateau-and-canyon country. Historic Rim Rock
\nDrive offers 23 miles of breathtaking panoramic views and numerous overlooks.
\nTrails lead across mesa tops and to spectacular overlooks or into backcountry
\ncanyons. Picnicking and camping are available. At an average elevation of
\n6,000 feet at the rim, the climate is relatively mild but can change rapidly
\nto snow or summer storms. Around 275,000 people per year visit Colorado
\nNational Monument to enjoy these and other opportunities. The monument
\nencompasses some 20,500 acres, and much of which has been recommended to
