\nMartino Pedrozzi\u2019s Interventions on the Rural Heritage in Valle di Blenio and
\nin Val Malvaglia 1994\u20132017<\/p>\n
For more than twenty years, Martino Pedrozzi has been working on the partial
\nreconstruction of derelict dwellings on alpine pastures in the mountains of
\nsouthern Switzerland. His interventions in Valle di Blenio and Val Malvaglia,
\nat altitudes around 6,500 feet, are part of a plan to protect and preserve the
\ncultivated landscape that was shaped by generations of local farmers grazing
\ntheir cattle.<\/p>\n
Pedrozzi collected and put in place again stones that had been used as
\nbuilding material for the ancient dry-stone walled structures, which have been
\nabandoned in recent decades. This recomposition is meant to reconstruct a
\npublic space and to retain landmarks in the barren alpine landscape, and also
\nas a monument to the civilization that has lived in and been sustained by it
\nfor centuries. <\/p>\n
This book documents Pedrozzi\u2019s work and highlights the problem of rural
\nexodus\u2014a constant phenomenon in the history of human life, caused by conflict,
\neconomic change, natural disasters, and climate change. It shows, strikingly,
\nhow that exodus is manifested in this region through mountain dwellings that
\nare no longer used because alpine agriculture has been given up in favor of
\nbetter opportunities and more comfortable ways of life elsewhere. <\/p>\n

Da oltre vent\u2019anni Martino Pedrozzi lavora alla parziale ricostruzione di
\nmalghe in rovina nei pascoli alpini della Svizzera meridionale. I suoi
\ninterventi nella Valle di Blenio e nella Val Malvaglia, a un\u2019altitudine di
\nquasi 2000 metri, rientrano nell\u2019ambito di un progetto inteso a tutelare e
\npreservare il paesaggio coltivato plasmato da generazioni di agricoltori
\nlocali che in quel territorio facevano pascolare il bestiame. Pedrozzi ha
\nraccolto e \u00abriassemblato\u00bb le pietre che costituivano le antiche strutture
\nmurarie realizzate a secco, da qualche decennio non pi\u00f9 in uso. Questa
\nricomposizione punta alla ricostruzione di uno spazio pubblico e alla
\nconservazione di elementi distintivi presenti nello spoglio paesaggio
\nalpestre, e vuole porsi come un monumento alla civilt\u00e0 che ha vissuto in

Questo libro documenta l\u2019opera di Pedrozzi e richiama l\u2019attenzione sul
