Tears and triumphs on the North side of Mt Everest
The author, attempting Mount Everest in 2006, faced a life-threatening
situation and turned round less than 150 vertical metres from the summit – the
decision saved his life and afforded him the opportunity to return in 2007.
This time, as the leader of the first successful South African expedition to
the north side of the mountain, he became the seventh South African to summit
via the North-East Ridge – an inspiring tale of tears and triumphs associated
with ‹The Death Zone›.
