The Great Mixed Climbs of Scotland celebrates the routes, characters and history that are the lifeblood of Scottish winter climbing. Evocative essays spanning the breadth of Scotland are animated by dazzling photography and a catalogue of the modern development of the sport.

Many of the 32 routes described are first or second ascents, each with their own distinctive spirit – from daylight-chasing adventures on sandstone monoliths in the far North-West to calf-bursting crack-lines piercing snowed-up walls in the Cairngorms.

Winter climbing has changed dramatically over the past two decades. But while advances in protection and continental-style techniques have helped push boundaries on steeper, bolder terrain, it’s the stubborn steadfast, ethical standpoint that has made the progression.
